Who: The London Philharmonic Skiffle Orchestra Known as **The LPSO**, founding members **Mike Martin** and **Martyn Oram** created the band in 2000 following a highly successful appearance as part of Skiffle King Chas McDevitt's band at the Kihveli Soikoon Festival in Finland. Initially a fairly straightforward skiffle/country//folk combo, the **LPSO** quickly developed as something far more than just a gigging line up. Re-christening their brand of skiffle as "anything goes", they embraced all the fun elements they could muster. Numerous instruments, costume changes, mad cap comical skits, parodies, comical songs, audience participation and pure high energy hilarity. This was all laced together with musical skills and the spirit of old time variety, but with a modern slant. Percussionist **Ian Durrant** (Captain Cabbage) was also in the original line up with various names playing bass... **Richard Sharp**, **Richard Partridge**, **Paul Tkachenko**, and, since 2007**, the Right Horrible Ronald Regan** (late of the comedy act Nuts & Bolts). They have been particularly well received at festival appearances in Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Germany, Finland, as well as in the UK. **The London Philharmonic Skiffle Orchestra** combine eccentric humour with high energy roots music from around the globe. Funny songs, crazy costumes, and virtuoso music! Who: The Barmy Penguins With Dave Boulton **The Barmy Penguins** began life as a casual meeting of like-minded folk musicians from around the Manchester area playing local folk clubs and sessions over recent years. The bands repertoire varies greatly. Dave focuses mainly on his own songs whilst the other members bring a delightful sprinkling of contemporary songs and music from the English and Celtic tradition. There was never a plan to form a band, it just happened by osmosis (No not the dead Pharoh king the other type.) The band comprises. **Dave Boulton**, Guitar, cittern, bass and vocals. You might know Dave from his time performing as half of the popular duo **His Worship and The Pig**. A very experienced writer and singer of his own songs as well as many written in cahoots with his old pal **Jeff Parton**. They performed at folk clubs and festivals up and down the country for over 20 years. Since retiring Dave has continued to write and perform on a regular basis around the country but especially in and around the Manchester area. **Mike Cosgrave**, Cittern, Weissenborn slide guitar and many other instruments as well as some fine singing. A versatile musician with his roots deep in Ireland and in Irish music. Mike has huge experience in playing both solo and in many differant bands. He is an instinctive musician who seems to be able to play anything on anything. He is mainly a virtuoso on the cittern these days, but also plays other instruments in the band. He's a great vocalist and writes good songs in his own right. He's also an artist and videographer and run his own music channel just google mikecosgravemusic) and this an all-round smart ass-et. Oh, and he has some great storis to tell too! The one about the band's name is a cracker which you'll hear when you see us. **Clare Rigby** Flute, whistles and ukuele and vocals. Penguin Wrangler Extraordinaire. The penguins can be very mischievous, and Clare spends significant amounts of time keeping them in order. She's been singing with Mike for quite a while and will often be seen playing in folk clubs and sessions around the area, as well as running her own Irish music session. She sings a selection of quirky songs and plays flute and especially whistle brilliantly. Clare brings her very own quite lovely style of harmonies and humour to the Barmy Penguins. **Richard Sykes** Guitar, Cittern, whistles, Villean pipes, bodhran and vocals. Richard is an experienced and wonderfully able musician and powerful singer, a true all-rounder. He often brings the instrumental focus to the band. A writer of memorable songs a singer of strong harmony he is a big presence in the band in every way. He also resembles Dave Boulton in an uncanny way leading folk to ask if one of our dad's had a bike. Overall, the band blends charming mix of personalities, vocal talents, instrumental virtuosity and an all-round feel-good atmosphere in a way that makes a final product that is somehow greater than the sum of its component parts.
