He is best known for incorporating his jazz guitar background into an unconventional style of cello playing, with a passion for breaking boundaries between genres and cultures. His music transitions seamlessly from virtuosic folk & bluegrass compositions, to non-Western sound worlds. Since his classical studies in Vienna, William has forged his own cello pathway, touring Europe, Australia and the UK extensively. He has recently performed his solo compositions from his album collection ‘This Old Cello Box’ live on BBC Radio 3 at the Edinburgh Fringe and was selected to perform as a ‘New Folk’ songwriter at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. William received the best music award at the 2025 Adelaide Fringe. He has been fortunate to work with numerous world-renowned artists, both as a session musician and collaborator. Two-thirds Icelandic, one-third Italian, the trio first crossed paths in London in 2011, when a chance house-share sparked a lasting musical connection. After years of collaborating and performing in each other’s solo projects, the three songwriters have now joined forces to create their new collaborative project. In the summer of 2024, the trio retreated to a cabin in rural Iceland, where they wrote the three songs that will appear on their debut EP, The Wave, due to be released in June 2026. MAAR’s music is characterised by three-part vocal harmonies, intimate lyrics, and acoustic instrumentation. At the heart of their sound is the interplay of all three members’ voices, creating a dynamic and harmonious identity that’s uniquely their own. Shaped by collaboration and friendship, their music is intimate, and unforced. It flows like a conversation between close friends. MAAR have been performing in England and Wales in the summer of 2025, and are touring Iceland in July 2026. They are currently working on their first full album. Her work has been described as “building an atmosphere of tranquillity and respite”, drawing listeners into a space of reflection and serenity. Hailing from the small North-east seaside town of Montrose in Scotland, Rhona Macfarlane was brought up in a musical household where creativity was boundless. Her early years were spent immersed in music, whether that was through Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell or Rickie Lee Jones on the record player, or the sounds of family playing piano, violin, guitar, bagpipes or clarsach. With ancestors from St Kilda and the Outer Hebrides, Rhona’s childhood included frequent trips to Harris where she was surrounded by folk music and her Grandmother’s Gaelic songs. She began learning violin and piano at an early age and into her teens picked up the guitar and began songwriting. Through songwriting opportunities such as “Hit the Road” and classical music experience with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland she quickly became enchanted by the world of songwriting while also developing a deep passion for the violin which she subsequently went on to study at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. This environment influenced her songwriting to hold elements of classical music, the folk tradition of storytelling at its centre but in turn manages to deliver it in an entirely modern light. Macfarlane released her highly anticipated debut album, *As The Chaos Unfolds*, in January, 2025. The album, recorded in the Autumn of 2023 at Watercolour Studios in the serene Scottish Highlands, was co-produced by Macfarlane and Matt Ingram. *As The Chaos Unfolds* is an evocative collection of songs that captures the essence of a “coming of age” experience. Written during her mid-20s—a time of profound personal change—the album delves into themes of love, identity, mental health, and the often-chaotic journey of navigating early adulthood. Singles from the album received widespread radio play from the likes of BBC Radio 2, Radcliffe and Maconie on BBC 6, BBC Ulster and numerous BBC Scotland shows such as single of the week on the ‘Afternoon Show’, Ricky Ross ‘Another Country’, Travelling Folk, Iain Anderson and BBC nan Gàidheal. Macfarlane also featured live on BBC Radio Scotland Pacific Quay sessions as part of Celtic Connections 2025. James is a singer-songwriter and author from the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. Since signing to Domino Records in 2001, James has released a steady flow of highly acclaimed albums, leading to him touring his music worldwide. He has a new book out - Callum, Reine, Sylvie and Sparrow - from which he will be reading, as well as playing songs from his 20-year career. A bit more about James James’ 2025 album, ‘Songs for Nina and Johanna’ is a collection of duets with Nina Persson of The Cardigans and Johanna Söderberg of First Aid Kit and earned James and Nina a slot on Later… With Jools Holland (September 2025) as well as BBC6 sessions for Huw Stephens, Marc Riley and Gideon Coe. Like most of Yorkston's best work, Songs for Nina and Johanna succeeds not only because of his talents as a songwriter, but by his choices as a collaborator – AllMusic 8/10 A likeable collection of songs about family and companionship. .... He was named Guitarist Magazine’s UK “Acoustic Guitarist of the Year” (2011), featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s “30 Great Guitarists Under 30 from Around the World” (2014), and described by Guitar World as “one of the best acoustic players on the planet right now” (2021). Will holds Associate, Licentiate, and Fellowship diplomas with Trinity College London in Classical Guitar Recital, and has released multiple critically acclaimed albums of original music. Throughout his career, Will has performed extensively across the UK and internationally, presenting concerts as a solo artist, appearing at major festivals, and supporting world-renowned musicians including Antonio Forcione, Pierre Bensusan, Clive Carroll, Jon Gomm, Martin Simpson, and Mumford & Sons, among others.
