Who: Gary Stewart **£15.18 incl booking fee:** **https://www.ticketsource.com/tree-house-bookshop/live-music-gary-stewart/e-olaaoy** Gary Stewart is a singer/songwriter from Perth in Scotland who cut his teeth performing on the Leeds music scene, before moving to York where he currently resides. Stewart writes songs in the Folk/Pop style and is influenced primarily by the prominent singer/songwriters of the 1960's and 1970's, with Paul Simon as his biggest inspiration. The Scottish Songsmith has released four Albums to date, with his latest offering, 'Use It Or Lose It', due for release in October this year. The Album was recorded in a little barn studio in The Yorkshire Dales and features collaborations with Seth Lakeman, David Ford, Alex Hart, Ellie Gowers, The Magpies and Graham Coe (Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys). His debut record, 'Boy Cries Wolf', garnered much praise from Janice Long and was played on Radio 2 courtesy of Steve Lamacq. The left-hander is also no stranger to the Festival circuit, having played Kendal Calling, Green Man, Deershed and Beardy Folk Festivals to name but a few. He is best known for incorporating his jazz guitar background into an unconventional style of cello playing, with a passion for breaking boundaries between genres and cultures. His music transitions seamlessly from virtuosic folk & bluegrass compositions, to non-Western sound worlds. Since his classical studies in Vienna, William has forged his own cello pathway, touring Europe, Australia and the UK extensively. He has recently performed his solo compositions from his album collection ‘This Old Cello Box’ live on BBC Radio 3 at the Edinburgh Fringe and was selected to perform as a ‘New Folk’ songwriter at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. William received the best music award at the 2025 Adelaide Fringe. He has been fortunate to work with numerous world-renowned artists, both as a session musician and collaborator.
